We need to remember when sending a proposal to an organisation that it’s not the organisation or the building we’re proposing to, it’s an individual within the company. So, if you want your work to be produced in a festival/season, you need to do some homework first.

* Find out about the festival/company and their past programs
* Find out who your proposal will be read by and make it relevant to them

This is what your proposal must cover:

1. What is the project? Give them a clear, strong idea of it and what you want to do with it.
2. Why is it noteworthy? Why do you want to do it now? Why does it fit their program?
3. How? This is where you talk about your budget (make sure it’s realistic), the venue, how long you need to bump in and out, special conditions you have and the processes you use in your work.
4. Who is the team involved and what are their track records? Who is the expected audience and who are the other people you’re going to for partnering and support (funding bodies, etc.)?
