So let me get this straight. Bigots who benefit from discrediting the legitimate complaints of the people they discriminate against are the people we should be aiming to appease here? Bigots who call pretty much any person who speaks out against the discrimination they experience “whining” or playing some sort of card are really the people we’re going to bow to in this circumstance? Instead of going, “Oh, hey. The girl is right. She’s being discriminated against, and it’s really wrong,” we’re going to go—you know who is a good person to agree with in this situation? The bigots. Seriously? Is that what we’re doing?

You do realize that by being that gay person who never comes across as whiny or conflict-seeking, that essentially means you have to be that gay person who never, ever, even casually brings up the fact that discrimination happens or that it is wrong. Because super fun fact here: bigots don’t care whether you’re actually whining or not. They will say you are a whining, conflict-seeking, attention whore not because it’s true, but it’s the quickest way to delegitimize your argument and get you to shut up and stop making people think about whether or not the system that keeps you second class is wrong.

I am from the South. Things didn’t change here in the 60s until people stopped shutting up and trying to make white people happy. What makes you think shutting up and making straight people happy all the time is going to work now?
